What counts as an emergency

  • A burst or leaking pipe you can't stop
  • Gas leak or gas smell
  • Sewage overflowing inside or across the yard
  • No water to the house
  • A leaking hot water tank or a relief valve that won't stop
  • No hot water when it can't wait (young children, elderly or unwell family members)

What to do while you wait

Burst or leaking pipe

Turn off the water at the meter. On most Sunshine Coast homes it is near the front boundary, often in a small box or beside the driveway. Turn the tap clockwise until it stops. If you're on tank water, switch off the pump at the power point.

Leaking hot water system

Turn off the power to the unit at the switchboard (electric) or turn off the gas at the unit (gas), then turn off the cold water valve going into the tank.

Gas smell

Turn off appliances and the gas at the bottle or meter. Don't use switches or flames. Open doors and windows and move away, then call. If it's a large leak or there's a fire risk, call 000.

Sewage overflow

Stop using water in the house (toilets, showers, washing machine, dishwasher) and keep children and pets away from the area.

After-hours call-outs

Outside business hours, call 0447 006 707. Clayton will tell you on the phone when he can get there and what any after-hours charge will be, before he heads out.

Hidden leaks and big water bills

Not every leak is a flood. A leak under a slab or in a wall can run for weeks. Unitywater's digital water meters, being rolled out from 2026, send an alert when your lowest daily use stays high for two days, which is often the first sign. See leak detection.

Clayton Cassel came and repaired a faulty gas regulator at very short notice on a Saturday morning, so that we could have hot water over the weekend. Thank you Clayton!!!

Common questions

Are you available 24/7?

Business hours are Monday to Friday (see the hours at the top of this page). Emergency call-outs are available outside those hours. Call and Clayton will tell you when he can get there.

Where is my water meter?

On most homes connected to town water it is near the front boundary, often in a small box in the lawn or beside the driveway. Turn the valve clockwise to shut it off.

Is a dripping tap an emergency?

Usually not. It can wait for a normal booking, though it is worth fixing because the water adds up over time.
