Plumber and gasfitter for Woombye and Kiels Mountain
Woombye is about 12 km by road from Bli Bli, just south of Nambour. Clayton covers the old railway-town streets, the townhouses and newer homes, and the rural-residential blocks out to Kiels Mountain and Diddillibah.
Woombye started in 1868 as Cobb’s Camp, an overnight stop for Cobb & Co coaches on the new Brisbane–Gympie road. The town was surveyed in 1890 and the railway came through in 1891. A sawmill ran beside the railway yards from 1895 to 1965, the first commercial pineapples were grown here in 1895, and the Big Pineapple on Nambour Connection Road, opened in 1971, has been on the Queensland Heritage Register since 2009.
That history shows up underground. In the older streets, trees have had decades to grow over house drains, and older clay sewer pipes have joints that roots can work into.
Tree roots, and who fixes which pipe
In Unitywater’s network, 614 of the 3,043 sewer blockages in 2024–25 were caused by tree roots, about one in five. Warning signs are gurgling drains, slow toilets and water rising in the gully trap outside.
Your pipe: under Unitywater’s policy, the owner maintains the private drain from the house up to, but not including, the inspection opening on the sewer connection.
Unitywater’s pipe: from the inspection opening on is Unitywater’s responsibility. A blockage found there is reported to Unitywater to clear, and its policy is that the plumber claims the identification fee from Unitywater instead of billing the owner.
Before you plant: Unitywater has a free online map that shows its pipes on your property.
The 2021 census counted 3,944 people in Woombye. Of the occupied homes, 85.5% are separate houses, 7.4% are townhouses or semi-detached, and 6% are in the census’s “other” group, which covers caravans, cabins and similar. Just over a quarter are rented.
Townhouses and duplexes share drains and stacks, so a leak or blockage needs tracing to the right pipe before anyone is asked to pay.
Caravans and RVs parked at home can have their gas certificate inspection done on site.
Older houses near the station often need tapware, toilet suites and water pipe brought up to date during renovations.
Cold mornings and hot water
The Bureau of Meteorology’s Nambour DPI station, a few kilometres up the road, recorded an average July minimum of 7.6 °C and a January maximum of 29.3 °C over 1952–2007. Winter is when a tired hot water system shows it: the incoming water is colder, and heat pump units recover more slowly on cold nights.
Electric storage units: failed elements and thermostats, leaking relief valves
LPG units: pilot and regulator faults, sometimes after a bottle changeover
Tempering valves that keep bathroom hot water at a safe temperature
Kiels Mountain, Diddillibah and West Woombye
The blocks get bigger outside town. Kiels Mountain rises to 153 m and is mainly rural residential. Diddillibah is semi-rural and grew from 1,403 to 1,703 people between the 2016 and 2021 censuses. West Woombye climbs toward the range, with farms growing lychees, macadamias, mangoes and avocados.
Out of town, expect rainwater tanks and pumps, septic systems, and gas and water lines to sheds and workshops.

★★★★★
Thanks Clayton for coming out to our residence and completing the Swift 500 recall service in our caravan. Much appreciated. A number of other larger caravan repair centres were “too busy” to do the work, but thanks to you we are safe to use our caravan appliance again.

Highly recommend Cassel's Plumbing - always on time, thorough, polite, great workmanship and very reasonable rates. I was very impressed with Clayton and so glad I called Cassel's.
Under Unitywater’s policy, the owner looks after the private drain from the house up to the inspection opening on the sewer connection, and Unitywater is responsible from there on. A blockage on Unitywater’s side is reported to Unitywater to clear.
Can you do a caravan gas certificate at my house in Woombye?
Yes. Caravan and RV gas inspections and certificates can be done where the van is parked, including at home.
Why does my hot water run out faster in winter?
The water coming into the tank is colder, so it takes more energy to heat, and heat pumps recover more slowly on cold nights. A unit that is already losing capacity to sediment or a failing element usually shows it first in winter.
Do you cover Kiels Mountain, Diddillibah and West Woombye?
Yes. Woombye is about 12 km from Bli Bli, and the rural-residential areas around it are part of the regular service area. Quotes are free and the price is agreed before work starts.
