What we do

  • Filtration and pump pipework: repairs, re-plumbing and upgrades
  • Leaking pool lines and fittings
  • Backwash and overflow drainage, done to Unitywater requirements
  • Gas pool and spa heater installation and connection on LPG
  • Gas line upgrades so a heater gets the supply it needs
  • Top-up and float valve problems

Where your backwash water can go

Under Unitywater's domestic pool policy, a licensed plumber can connect backwash to your private sewer drain without separate approval. Discharge to sewer is limited to 0.5 litres per second and only between 10am and 5pm or 10pm and 5am, and new pool overflows shouldn't go to sewer. Getting this right avoids problems with the sewer and with council.

Gas pool heating

Gas heaters warm a pool quickly and work in any weather, which suits pools that are used in bursts or in the cooler months. They need a gas supply big enough for the heater, which on LPG often means a bulk tank or a larger bottle setup and the right size pipe. Clayton checks the supply and quotes the whole job, including the gas line.

Selling or leasing with a pool

Queensland pool safety certificates are issued by licensed pool safety inspectors, not plumbers, and last two years for a private pool. If the inspector flags plumbing issues near the fence or equipment, Clayton can fix those.

Common questions

Can you connect a gas pool heater?

Yes. As a licensed gasfitter Clayton can install and connect gas pool and spa heaters, including the gas line, and certify the work.

Where should pool backwash go?

In Unitywater areas a licensed plumber can connect backwash to your private sewer drain, within Unitywater’s flow and time limits. It shouldn’t run into the stormwater or a neighbour’s yard.

Is gas or a heat pump better for heating a pool?

Gas heats quickly and suits occasional use; heat pumps cost less to run when the pool is heated for long periods. It depends on how you use the pool.
