Tap, toilet and shower repairs on the Sunshine Coast
The everyday jobs that build up around a house: a dripping tap, a toilet that keeps running, a wobbly mixer, a shower that won’t shut off properly. Clayton works through the list in one visit, from Glass House Mountains up to Gympie, and the price is agreed before he starts.
Taps: dripping or leaking taps, washers and jumper valves, ceramic disc cartridges, stiff or loose handles, and garden taps.
Mixers: kitchen, basin, laundry and shower mixers that drip, leak at the base or won’t hold temperature.
Tap and toilet replacements: new taps, mixers and toilet suites supplied or fitted, including WELS-rated water-saving models.
Toilets: cisterns that keep running or refill on their own, inlet and outlet valves, flush buttons, leaking pan connectors and loose or rocking pans.
Showers: dripping shower heads, worn shower mixers, wall taps leaking behind the tiles and low pressure.
Isolation valves and stop taps that have seized or started leaking.
Noisy pipes: water hammer (banging when a tap shuts off) and pipes rattling in the walls.
Laundry and dishwasher connections: leaking hoses, taps and waste outlets.

What you can fix yourself in Queensland
The QBCC lists a few jobs as unregulated plumbing, so a homeowner can do them without a licence:
Replacing a jumper valve or washer in a tap
Replacing a shower head or a domestic water filter cartridge
Repairing or replacing a drop valve washer, float valve washer or suction cup rubber in a toilet cistern
Anything beyond that, like replacing a tap, mixer or toilet, or repairing a leak in a pipe, is plumbing work that must be done by a licensed plumber. If a DIY repair hasn’t stopped the drip, the usual culprit is a worn tap seat or a cartridge, which Clayton can fix on the spot.

Is your toilet leaking? A two-minute check
Put a few drops of food colouring in the cistern (the tank at the back) and don’t flush.
Wait 15 minutes.
If colour shows up in the bowl, water is leaking through the outlet valve, which can waste a lot of water without making a sound.
A cistern that hisses, trickles into the bowl or refills on its own every so often has the same problem. It’s usually a quick valve or seal replacement. See leak detection if your water bill has jumped and you can’t find why.
Repair or replace?
Repair when the tap or toilet is otherwise in good shape and the fault is a washer, cartridge, valve or seal.
Replace when parts are no longer available, the body is cracked or corroded, or you want a water-saving model. All taps, showers and toilets sold in Australia carry a WELS star rating, and more stars means less water.
Clayton will tell you which makes sense before any work starts.

Clayton has been doing work for me in my bnb business for a number of years. I would never use anyone else again. Wonderful man with great family values. Very friendly trustworthy and professional.
Why does my tap keep dripping after I changed the washer?
The tap seat (where the washer presses down) is probably worn or pitted, or it is a ceramic disc tap that needs a new cartridge rather than a washer. Re-seating or replacing the cartridge usually fixes it.
Why does my toilet keep running?
Usually the outlet valve is not sealing, so water trickles into the bowl, or the inlet valve is not shutting off when the cistern is full. Both are common, quick repairs.
Can I replace a toilet or tap myself in Queensland?
No. Replacing a tap, mixer or toilet is plumbing work that needs a licensed plumber. Homeowners can replace a tap washer or jumper valve, a shower head, and some toilet cistern washers.
Can you do several small jobs in one visit?
Yes. List everything when you book or in the quote form and Clayton will plan the visit so it is all done in one trip.
Do you do tap and toilet repairs in Gympie?
Yes. Clayton covers Gympie and the Mary Valley as well as the Sunshine Coast. Call to book a time.
