LPG is the norm here
Most homes on the Sunshine Coast, in the hinterland and around Gympie run on LPG, either swap-and-go 45 kg bottles or a bulk tank. That has a few practical effects:
Appliances bought for natural gas (common if you've moved from Brisbane or interstate) must be converted to LPG by a licensed gasfitter before use.
Regulators wear out. Weak flames, a burner that won't stay lit or a gas hot water unit that runs cold are often regulator problems.
Bottle location matters: clearances from windows, drains and ignition sources are set by the gas standards.
Gas safety: what to do if you smell gas
Smell gas? Turn off appliances and the gas at the bottle or meter, don't use switches or naked flames, open doors and windows, and move away. Then call a licensed gasfitter. If the leak is large or there's a fire risk, call 000.
All gas work in Queensland must be done by someone holding a gas work licence or authorisation. You can check any gasfitter's licence on the Resources Safety & Health Queensland register.
Gas compliance certificates
When gas work is finished, the gasfitter certifies it. Separately, Queensland requires a current gas compliance certificate before a caravan, RV or boat with a gas system is offered for sale. See caravan gas certificates for how that works.

Clayton Cassel came and repaired a faulty gas regulator at very short notice on a Saturday morning, so that we could have hot water over the weekend. Thank you Clayton!!!

My Tradie mate highly recommended Clayton to help us out with gas and plumbing issues. Clayton's competence, professionalism, unflustered problem solving and general likeability makes this an easy 5 STAR review.
Not always. Gas work in Queensland needs a separate gas work licence from Resources Safety & Health Queensland. Clayton holds both a QBCC plumbing licence (1297188) and a gas work licence (LIC-GWL-019585).
Can I get natural gas at my house on the Sunshine Coast?
Most homes on the Sunshine Coast, in the hinterland and around Gympie use LPG from bottles or a bulk tank. If you have a natural gas appliance, it will need converting to LPG.
Can I install a gas cooktop myself?
No. Connecting or disconnecting gas appliances is gas work and must be done by a licensed gasfitter, who then certifies the work.
Why does my gas burner keep going out?
Common causes are a faulty thermocouple or flame-failure device, a dirty burner, or low gas pressure from a worn regulator. A gasfitter can test the pressure and find the cause.
