Plumbing in the Gympie region

  • Water from the Mary River. Gympie Regional Council supplies the city from the Mary River, topped up by releases from Borumba Dam. Imbil, Kandanga and Amamoor have their own council schemes, and Rainbow Beach and Tin Can Bay draw from bores and Teewah Creek.
  • Harder water in places. Treated water hardness varies a lot across the region, from very soft at Tin Can Bay to much harder in some Mary Valley towns and on private bores. Hard water builds scale in hot water units, valves and tapware.
  • Septic and tank water are common on rural blocks around Gympie and through the valley.
  • Cooler winters. Gympie's July mornings average around 6 °C, which is when tired hot water systems and heat pump units show it.
  • Flooding. The Mary River at Gympie peaked at 22.96 m in February 2022, the second-highest on record. After a flood, have the gas appliances, hot water and drainage checked before using them.

Southside sewer connections

Gympie Regional Council's Southside Sewer Project is moving properties off septic onto the sewer network. Owners can use their own licensed plumber for the house connection and decommissioning the old septic. Clayton can quote the connection, and the price is agreed before work starts.

Backflow and council paperwork

Gympie Regional Council keeps its own register of backflow prevention devices and needs notice within 10 days of testing or maintenance. See backflow testing.

What customers say

Thanks Clayton for coming out to our residence and completing the Swift 500 recall service in our caravan. Much appreciated. A number of other larger caravan repair centres were “too busy” to do the work, but thanks to you we are safe to use our caravan appliance again.
